Jacobson, Minnesota, nestled along the winding oxbows of the upper Mississippi River, has known its share of quiet moments. But for the past few years, a familiar landmark has stood silent: Mississippi Landing, the local gas station and general store. Now, a new "coming soon" sign posted on the exterior of the business brings new hope that the Mississippi Landing will be bustling once again.
What Will New Ownership Bring?
What will the future hold for Mississippi Landing? Will new owners recreate what once was, or will they expand and update the store's products and services? Thus far, all indications noted in the "coming soon" sign point to new ownership and gas, groceries, and bait as initial offerings. The community will find out more soon enough, but one thing is certain: the reopening, once it comes, will be a convenience for the community. It will also be a new stop along the way for those passing through, heading north on Minnesota 65 or east on Minnesota 200.
So, we wait, with eyes turned towards the crossroads of two well-traveled state highways, and hope that soon, the gas pumps will be pumping once more, the shelves will be stocked with snacks and staples, and the aroma of fresh coffee will once again fill the air, welcoming everyone to Jacobson.
